Seasons Mode

Fifa 13 Scripting - Post 11

I have took quite a bit of time off from playing FIFA recently hence the lack of updates on my part but I did find myself wanting a game or two the other day so I returned as I always do.

Wary of the awful scripting I had been experiencing I decided to start the "Seasons" mode for the first time this year to see if the same problems I had experienced on Ultimate Team were there on Seasons as well. I picked Uruguay because I have always enjoyed and had a lot of success playing with them in previous FIFA's. This year however, based on my experience, they are even more unbelievable.

This group of players are the team to beat this year with the likes or Suarez, Cavani and Forlan up front the attacking quality of these players is immense. Yes the team is weak in midfield and even weaker in defence but as a team they are solid. The movement from that attacking 3 opens up defences like you wouldn't believe.

As a result I won my first 6 matches in Seasons. Yes, I am in the bottom Divisions but its not about the final scoreline when you judge the quality of a team its all about the movement, positions and chances each of the players make during the match. Taking into consideration the rating of this squad they are arguably one of the best teams on the game.

After I had finished those games it hit me, I had experienced no noticeable examples of FIFA 13 scripting at all neither for nor against me. Usually on Ultimate Team even when I am in control I know if I am getting help from the game or not. In Seasons I didn't experience any of this.

Some people have argued that scripting only comes into play once the game judges your ability and thus the examples of scripting occur.

I suppose only time will tell but I would like to know which teams you think are arguably the best on the game other than the obvious ones of course?

  1. Hello

Myself and other 2 friends ( i consider we are good fifa players, not top but good). The 3 of us play seasons and we were up to the top divisions really fast and our stats were like 40 wins 5 losses for each (more or less). Since then things started to get complicated for the 3 of us.
Obviously I know top divisions means better opponents of course, but when i mean complicated i mean scripted and out of control really often.
Like everythinh that everyone already knows starts to happen like players getting slower, passes going wrong direction or wrong speed, and that feeling you get that you are NOT controlling what happens.

So the thing is. I strongly believe EA as put some kind of trigger to define whether you are good or a bad player. And that does not trigger in the first games since i had no noticeable scripining in the first matches.. But after youre defined as "good" player. Bye bye freedom :)

    1. Agreed, it seems to be the more you play the harder the difficulty. I also have an example where someone I know won his first 2 Division 1 titles in a row with ease then every season after that it got progressivly harder. Until last night where he actually had to rely on his last game to avoid relegation.

  2. I suppose this is about the "regular" seasons mode instead of the FUT Seasons mode, because in there, there's definitely still scripting going on. Can't really remember how I won the titles in previous divisions but I've been in division 1 for quite a while now and won my fair share of trophees. but as soon as I'm on the verge of finishing a season within 7 games it just won't happen. be it a championship or just staying in the division, as soon as I get 3 wins a loss or at the very best a draw will occur. if I go 3-0-0 in 3 games I'm very likely to playing for the championship in game 8 or 9. If I lose one of the first 3/4 games I'll very likely end up with a 3-0-3 record after six games and I will either lose or draw game 7 (just happened today again, 0-2 behind under 18 mins with two rebound goals, not allowed to finish any attack until the 70th minute when I finally get a goal. and then ofcourse not allowed to give a decent through ball again up until the 90th minute when I actually shoot very poorly straight at the keeper, but it manages to go in anyway. It's so dumb. I knew the entire match that a draw was the best I could for and it happened pretty much as I predicted along the way. I pretty much only get enjoyment out of the first few games of a season or cup. for the rest of the season/cup I'm just going through the motions in order to get coins so I can buy thiago silva ;(

  3. well, they;ve done it. my spirit is broken. between all the down time, not fixed EAS FC bought extra team slots which are bugged, lack of any new FUT cups, me FINALLY getting thiago silva (for 200k) and not being able to win one single match with him in the team (and winning ALL other matches with just sakho and n'koulou and the same rest of the team), I STILL managed to finish quite a few seasons. but just now I finished my 8th season in a row with the EXACT same track record; 4 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses. Pretty much in every loss I was behind 2-0 within 30 minutes and pretty much every win I struggled until I was two goals up past the 70 min mark before I could finally finish every attack (leading to 3 or 4 or even more goals in the final 20 minutes of all those wins). the game is completely boring to me now and the only enjoyment is building a nice team (and see it getting destroyed by some silver brazil hybrid thing) and making a few nice goals in the win I do get. With all the time and 100 euros invested into this game and the fact that all my friends are still playing (on much lower levels) I won't stop playing this year, but next year I'm definitely switching to PES, unless somehow magically "scripting" disappears, but who are we kidding. I don't really like to wish terminal diseases unto anyone, but if the guy that implented the scripting/momentum in this game gets one or a few of them I will be secretly laughing my ass off, and I already myself for thinking that. thank you EA (it almost seems like they want people to switch to PES, maybe they invested in it :P)

  4. Hi!

I have become a "believer" on this momentum issue, and that is in no small part thanks to my personal experiences of late. I'm am no FIFA king, certainly, although I'm not bad either. I'm currently in division 1 in FUT and I've just won a title (uh oh). Although I'm happy for winning the title, I'm still a bit disgruntled, because after winning the first five of my season on the trot (playing great by the way) I lost the next two. Then I recorded a miraculous 2-1 win and in the penultimate game of the season I got another one. Both matches had CLEAR momentum shifts, in my own favour I may add, and I really felt sorry for my opponent, like in the last one Eljero Elia won a fair contested header against Naldo from a corner. They were both jumping from a standstill and in spite of that Eljero won the duel. The goal was in the 79th minute.

I have found that a way to combat momentum is to be extremely sweaty. Before I tried all kinds of different formations and player combinations trying to play positive attack minded football, but then I became so frustrated with the game that I dropped idea. Now I've converted into 5-2-2-1, relaying solely on rather fast black men(or players in general) and now things go my way more often. Of course there's the occasional two defenders barging into each other and then a third defender who tackles the ball into his own net behind a stationary keeper... But having more men and faster men back defending helps me limit these absolutely disgusting situations. So even though it pains me to say it... Maybe sweat is the way to go? :/

  5. hmmm, so maybe I have figured this out. after losing 10 out of 13 matches with thiago silva in my team (only matches I won were against people with either Ramos or also thaigo silva in their team), I figured that this shit isn't working. Then I realised that I won most of my matches with my french team. I took a look at the team and I spotted the difference with all my other teams. 2 non-special players (N'koulou and sissoko). So I fixed all my teams now so that they have 1 or 2 non special players in the starting 11, with an added 1 or 2 silver monsters, and apparently it works. promoted out of div 2 again with 6 straight victories (some HUGE 10-1+) and won the Messi cup in 2 tries, only because the first try ended in the semi final because the game dropped :/ (I was up 2-1 fs, why was I sent back to the final 16? :(( ). I sold all my 50,000+ players so now I have money to spare and nothing to spend it on, but at least I can now buy whatever I need for whatever tournament that may come :) maybe I'm not quite done with fifa just yet ;D lemme know if this works for someone else as well

    1. That makes a lot of sense actually. Will give it a go i only have 1 non rare in the team at the minute will be easy enough to add a second.

  6. maybe special and silver should be replaced by cheap ass, but it doesn't work with my hugely expensive brazil silver hybrid (unless someone has an even more expensive team), so I sold Danilinho (120k) and neymar (190k) and replaced them by rafael martinho (serie B silver brazil LW, 92 speed, around 8k) and Hulk. And now I'm up against bigger and better and more expensive brazilian squads all the time and I haven't lost one (yet :P). pretty easy run to the new cup final as well (1 corinthians and one chelsea players in your team, so lots of ppl playing with brazil squads). Hulk is now my most expensive players together with Reus from my bundesliga team and it seems to work, because last night I played against a cheaper bundesliga team than mine (someone who had a very similar team but no Reus, Muller and Gotze) and I couldn't land one through ball the entire match again

  7. While the servers were down on FUT I started playing seasons. I also found that there seems to be no scripting in this game mode (obviously because theres no packs/money for them to make). My record is 48 - 9 and yeah I do use RSC Anderlect (pace whore team 3.5 stars) but nearly every match I play it seems consistent all the way through. Theres no momentum shifting and stupid spells from your players and it actually feels like a different game all together. My conclusion is that they've obviously spent time tinkering with FUT because they want good players to get annoyed and buy packs. They also want crap players to carry on playing, get good then get annoyed (due to the scripting starting to affect them) and buy packs! The idiots at EA forgot to add it to seasons which makes it even more obvious now! Oh yeah and I fully agree with the people saying they buy good players and their teams start playing shit. Happens to me all the time on FUT and im bored of it now. Looks like EA are shooting themselves in the foot with this handicapping as people want a fair playing field. Another thing is the game came out a few weeks before black ops 2 and you wouldve thought that massive server capacity would have been freed up once people started playing black ops instead of fifa but no, the tight pricks at EA obviously anticipated this and probably reduced server space. Never known a game to have so many server issues etc, its even been on watchdog twice about its problems.

  8. the problem is that too many people are too stupid to even notice the scripting. they want to believe in their own abilities, even when the evidence is right there (just falsely lower your team rating with bad bronze players and not even the most skilled player in the world will win 3 games in a row). I see the comments on for instance facebook whenever a TOTW is released and the "Shut up and take my money"-meme comes alives through all this dumb f*@#&*#@ that actually believe a +1 rating for a player will improve their team :/ what sucks even more is that I've been hearing a lot of crap about PES as well, so I'm torn :(

  9. took my quite a while but I'm finally throwing the towel. I'm officially done with Ultimate team. tried my first few regular seasons mode matches and it's such a nice experience to not be worrying about scripting/handicap the entire match. Just played my first 6 matches (gotta get used to manual aim fs :D), first one was 0-0 because manual aim took some getting used to (19 shots, 15 wide :D), but after that won 5 in a row. not ONCE did I feel like I was benefited by the game, or did I feel that I needed to wait until the final part of a half to make a goal. Nor did I feel that my missed chances were scripted, because later on they went in anyway. pretty much every easy through ball by Pirlo actually got THROUGH and out of 5 easy chances I made at least 4 EVERY single game. The game is awesome again. it's a shame though because I really liked the trading aspect of FUT, but the gameplay has ruined it completely. so goodbye to 4-1-4 or 4-1-3 season runs and hello not knowing :)

    1. Agreed I am playing seasons at the minute and it is so refreshing to actually play and know you have beaten or even lost to an opponent that is completley down to skill and not questionable circumstances.

  10. Hi there very interesting read. However I can't agree with the no scripting comments for regular seasons mode. I wouldn't describe myself as a world beater but am not a bad player. I have played over 40 seasons so far as have at least 4 of my best friends, we are all having the exact same issues you are describing in your FUT seasons. 45th minute goals 90th minute goals and consistent momentum shifts in the 70th minute onwards. Your earlier excel sheet makes perfect sense as does the ea programmers momentum table. I regularly have games where I will have over 15 shots on target only to lose to a poor player with significantly less possession and shots.

    1. I have to admit I do agree with this now that scripting is in fact present in Seasons albeit no where near the same level as it is in Ultimate Team.

    2. One thing I'm noticing is the mis interpreting of the use of the word scripting. It seems to be that some people believe that it means that no matter what the result if a game is "scripted" or predetermined I don't believe this at all. My view is as yours where there is almost a hidden set of rules within the game aimed at making things interesting. I've thought it for ages in FIFA when playing against the CPU you'll play a game go 3-0 up then all of a sudden you struggle to score again until you either concede or make a change that the CPU decides is a good one. This scripting issue online is an extension of that only there are many more factors especially with FUT teams ie. chemistry, formations, player ratings, managers and your own personal play styles. Mix it all up and the way the game is programmed really screws things up badly. Another thing to add to this is how difficult it is to control a game even when I player puts their controller down, the AI takes over and still manages to make it difficult where through balls, one twos and kill moves still are required if you want to score more goals. I understand that FIFA is a massively complex game but I really hope they can make things more realistic to reward real world good quality gamers

  11. Also in addition to the above the phenomenon of getting tougher games at crunch times within a season definitely takes place also. My only counter comment that might explain less scripting issues in seasons is there is less of a dynamic with playing regular formed teams and that have a tendency to reoccur so you can figure out the better formations and tactics over time to be able to grab control of a game. My group of friends coin the phrase 'FIFA Fake' to explain this phenomenon.

  12. personally I don't have a problem getting scores over 3-0 at all in regular seasons mode. YES it, WILL take a few more shots (I for instance have NEVER encountered a 4th shot going straight in if you already scored 3 out of 3), but after that, no problem. for me there is a very big distinction between the handicapping in FUT and the stuff that's going in Seasons mode (thusfar). I would go as far as saying that in seasons mode it's just regular momentum (43th+ & 87th+ minute goals, or not being able to score for a while when you've already hit target 2 or 3 times.) and in FUT it's just blunt handicapping (not being allowed to score for an entire game unless the opponents scores about 3 or 4 goals or GIVES you a goal or two

  13. There is definite scripting in seasons. Like Richard Taylor mentioned, it seems to kick in at crunch times in your season. For example, the season I just played through, I was in Division 3 and won the first 4 matches in a row, lost the 5 and won the 6th. So i was sat on 15 points with 4 games to play, only 1 win required for promotion. Should be easy right after recording 5 out of 6 wins? Nope. Lost my 7th game, drew my 8th and 9th, so that left me with the final match in the season, where I only needed a draw for promotion. All of the last 3 games were very tight, and I could easily have won all 3 had the game cut me some slack on my chances and shots. However this last game, wasn't tight at all, the game just let the other team pound me. 4 shots and 4 goals, bad deflections, defenders falling over each other, tackles, clearences and everything giving him the ball straight back. It was pathetic. Through good play I managed to get 2 goals back, but the match ultimately ended 4-2, and I ended my season 1 point off promotion.

This is not a coincedence, this happens almost everytime I get close to achieving something. The game has a way of making you feel like a good player, and then instantly shafting you, making it seem like suddenly you're doing everything wrong. I felt like I couldn't create a single chance with the same team I was winning matches 5-1 before, where I had about 15 1 v 1's. The last 4 matches were always packed in defence, and so hard to break down, yet when they got the ball back, my defence completely folded and it was now them with 15 1 v 1's.

This isn't logical. Just remove the infuriating obvious scripting, and let everyone play on an equal playing field.

    1. Absolutely. Can't believe there are some many on here claiming no scripting in regular Seasons. It's the same as FUT Seasons. Most people on here didn't notice the scripting in regular seasons because it isn't there initially. Once you get into Div 1 and are in there for a couple of seasons or have won the title, it all kicks in. Extreme handicapping mostly and scripting, not really the normal momentum shifts. I don't experience momentum shifts much anymore (i'm into my 55th season), I just experience my opponents having vastly overpowered teams while my teams stumbles upon each other and passes to opponents all the time. Also, you'll almost always end up playing the 10th game to decide the outcome of the season. Even if you won the first 5 games, Fifa will ensure you draw and lose the last few to take it to the last game with 1 or 2 points needed for title.

I understand why they put scripting into FUT (revenues from packs) sure, but why in regular seasons too is beyond me.

  14. I hate EA and all there bullshit they put into this game. there logic is so retarded. It's absolutely pointless playing the game because of it, because your not really playing , EA is manipulating everything, the number of people realizing it is growing all the time , I really hope somebody stands up to EA soon just to see the look on there retarded faces, god they make me so angry. Surely a decent coder could hack into whats going on during matches and prove it's there somehow or has EA paid all the decent coders off?

I would love for someone to have defined proof of what everyone with a brain knows is there already.

(scripted manipulated shit to make more money)
